Rotary Comes to Town
Rotary Clubs from the Southampton area including Eastleigh and Chandlers Ford made a presentation of ROTARY and its activities to a specially invited group of business men and senior members of companies, charities, local government and educational establishments. Nearly 100 people attended the presentation on Tuesday night at King Edward School in Southampton. Richard Maunder, the Past District Governor who conceived the idea commented. The objective was to enlighten the guests, many of whom were only vaguely aware of the Rotary International. The presentation covered both the UK and International dimensions of Rotary including, the partnership between the Bill Gates Foundation (Microsoft & Rotary), which is close to eliminating Polio worldwide (through immunisation) and the Rotary Disaster and Aqua boxes which provide international relief and support to disasters such as Tsunami's. Local Southampton projects include projects in schools such as Rotary Youth Speaks competition and Rotary Young Chef and Christmas shoe boxes were also covered.
All guests were amazed at the scale of Rotary activities both internationally and in the local Southampton community.
