2011 SWIMATHON and SPORTATHON

This year the Hamble Community Sportathon was spread over four days instead of the one and a half days in 2010. Remember the rain on the Friday!
On Tuesday July 19th we had Bursledon Infant School in the morning, followed by Bursledon Junior School in the afternoon. All the children had a great time including the Staff, with activities outside, in the Sportshall, and in the Dance Studio. All the children wished it could have been longer judging by thr looks on their faces at the end of the day.
The following day we had Springwell School at the College. This was a wonderful event for children with some quite significant emotional and other needs. Indeed the Hamble College "Young Leaders" played a key role with the Hamble Sports Staff in making this two hours that these children will remember for a long time to come.
Thursday July 21st saw Hamble Primary School taking part in the wide range of age related activities that the Hamble College Sports Staff under College Sports Director Michelle Green had organised for them. Once again some very happy children enjoyed their time at their local "Big School".
On the Friday with a 9.00am Start we had the Netley Abbey Infant School at the College in the morning, followed by Netley Abbey Juniors for the afternoon. Another very successful and happy event.
The Sportathon was supported by a great group of Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Southampton East, and two really great Drivers from Barfoot Coaches, Tony and Troy.
In 2012 we are hoping to get Rotary's British and Irish Group, the RIBI to provide an Aspire Mark for the 2012 London Olympics, as the 2012 Hamble Community Sportathon Event will take place the week before the start of the 2012 London Olympics.
On Sunday July 24th under Rotarian John Lawrence's leadership we had a successful Community Swimathon with teams swimming from 8.30am through to approximately 1.30pm.
In the Sports Hall on the Sunday, we had a Bouncy Castle, a Shelter Box and all its contents supplied by the Rotary Club of Swanage and Purbeck courtesy of Rotarian Debbie Durnford. There were also Tae Kwando Displays as well as Street Dance Sessions, Zumba Dance Displays and Ball Room Dancing Sessions.
All in all something for everybody while their Teams were swimming. To see more photos click here.
